Celebrating its 16th year of production, the Le Cheile Festival cranks back up this August in Oldcastle.
One of Ireland's longest running independent Festivals, the Le Chéile Festival continues to draw big crowds of musicians, artists, music fans,
and tourists to the weekends festivities every August bank holiday weekend.
This year boasts a fine mixture of musical artists with something to suit all ages, musical tastes and contemporary styles. Highlight gigs
will include the hugely successful HamSandwich
from Kells on Sun 4th, who will be fresh from supporting Bon Jovi at the best and most
legendary open air venue in the country, Slane Castle. Support on the night will come from the excellent and rapidly rising Walking on Cars
and the new Irish success story KeyWest
Also on the bill are the musical phenomenon KÍLA
, who are embarking on a country-wide tour this year to celebrate 25 years in the business.
KÍLA also played the very first inception of Le Cheile, so things have come full circle.
KÍLA open this year's Festival on Friday 2nd Aug as headliners for 'The Gathering 2013 Night @ Le Cheile' and to give the night a truly
international feel, two support acts from New York will be flying over to join in the nights celebrations. Fire dancing and the KÍLA drummers
will also accompany a pre-show performance.
Throughout the rest of the weekend, a wide spectrum of music will be available, as stated by Le Cheile Director, Fergus Govern. -
"2012 was a great event for us, more so as a lot of other festivals have gone to the wall in the last couple of years. One of the things we
learned from last year is to make sure that all age groups are catered for at our festival, and where we may have been guilty of focusing on
the 18-30 year age groups over the past few years, we have listened to our fan base, and have added a new twist to this year's events. We are
looking forward to the Dublin City Ramblers coming to town, and also putting a gospel choir into the church on the square. Another
highlight will be the Trad session on Owen Traynors bar, which has become something of a must-see night for new visitors to Oldcastle.
And we're planning an All Ages Gig on the Sunday afternoon on the main stage using some of Irelands most promising talent and aimed directly
at the younger teen audience."
Another sure fire winner, will be the Classic Beatles
for Creans venue on Saturday 3rd. One of the best tribute acts on the
scene for many years, they will bring many new visitors to Oldcastle this summer.
Closing out the festival gigs line up will be Big Generator
who hardly need any introduction and have been packing out
venues for years. As part of the legendary Monday nights at Le Cheile, Big Generator will take to the stage on Monday 5th on Creans Stage,
along with a great mix up of local and national acts.
Children's activities will run on the square all weekend, alongside street markets, street entertainment and activities such as walks, cycles
and time trails. Plus there will be art exhibitions throughout the town, Pop-Up shops around the Square and workshops for arts and crafts.
This year Le Cheile will also run return buses
from Navan, Cavan, Mullingar, and Kells for those wishing to avail of a
cheap and effective transport solution. However, for those who wish to stay overnight, Le Cheile will run its second year of campsite
facilities, situated in the centre of town, close to the main stage in secure settings.
Le Cheile chosen charity this year is The Irish Dogs for the Disabled
who provides specially trained dogs to people with
mobility issues, thus providing them with a new sense of support and independence. Le Cheile and volunteers will partake in a sponsored
in July to raise funds for this excellent charity.
The Le Cheile Launch Party
will take place on Saturday 13th July in the Fincourt Bar, Oldcastle, with free admission,
BBQ, and live acts throughout the night. Everybody is welcome to get a taste of what's coming this August.
